Pripyat (Ukrainian: При́п'ять, Pryp’yat’; Russian: При́пять, Pripyat’) is a zone of alienation near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, part of Kiev Oblast (province) of northern Ukraine, near the border with Belarus.

The city was founded to house the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant workers, and was abandoned in 1986 following the Chernobyl disaster. Due to the still unsafe levels of radiation, it is still not entirely safe to enter without some protection. It is a location set only in the Doomsday Prophecy scenario in Resident Evil: Genesis Chronicles.

History[]

Pripyat was founded on the 4th of February in 1970 to house workers for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. It was officially proclaimed a city in 1979 but was then abandoned in 1986 following the Chernobyl disaster. It was the ninth nuclear city (Russian: атомоград atomograd) in the Soviet Union at the time and its population was around 50,000 before the accident.

2003[]

Doctor Isaak Reznov flees from his superiors into this city where there are viral infected creatures waiting for the Volki. At first, the soldiers see nothing but shapes and shadows, but are later acquainted with the doctor's creatures and fight them off before following him toward Chernobyl.

Trivia[]

  • While traversing the city, flickering images of what may be ghosts can be seen briefly, as well as whispers and giggles.
  • One of the apartment buildings can be accessed, but most of the apartments themselves cannot. While in the hallways, the player can hear soft sobbing sounds, accompanied with a string of Ukrainian curses. It's not certain where this comes from, but this is possibly one of the infected.
  • Buildings worth noticing in the scenario are the hotel "Polissya", the center "Energetik", the large art studio, the "Azure" swimming pool, and the Pripyat Ferris wheel and bumper car ride which were due to open on May 1, 1986, but never did, due to the Chernobyl Disaster.
  • There are also sounds of children laughter as they player continues through the city.
  • Certain areas closer to Chernobyl cannot be accessed due to radiation levels higher than others.
  • The sounds and whispers are made to give the player a sense of loneliness and gloominess, which is also made by the dark clouds and the snowfall.
  • The location in the game looks strikingly similar to the real Pripyat.
  • Most of the area can be explored for notes, memos and other particular weapons of necessity, but overall, there are some areas unable to be entered or explored.
