R-virus
From Gory Storm
The R-virus is known by two names; one, the Regeneration Virus is used by V.I.R.A.L. Dome lead scientist, Carol Wilson due to the regenerative abilities that the virus presents while the second one, the Retribution Virus, is used by V.I.R.A.L. Dome lead assistant Donald Turner because of what he had in store for the virus and how he hoped it would cripple Umbrella.

[edit] History
The R-virus was developed by Umbrella Corporation scientist Carol Wilson from a special gene found in a rose located on a secluded island near Brazil mixed with specific compounds found in G-virus to create what she had originally called the Rose Virus(due to where it came from), but eventually came to call it the Regeneration Virus.
[edit] Characteristics of the R-virus
The R-virus is a clear dark red color and is often compared to red food coloring in terms of appearance. The virus itself does absolutely nothing to the host until they are damaged. When the host is damaged though, in similar manner to the G, the R-virus greatly increases the host's metabolism, accelerating cellular duplication and revitalization of dead cells. However, unlike the G, the host is able to retain higher levels of intellgence, which leads to basic speech and communication skills, very little moral reasoning(though after a certain amount of mutating, this can disappear) as well as retaining memories that are extremely important to the host. However, these results only work on mammals. When used on other animal groups, the virus simply kills the creature by eating it's cells.
Because of these results, the virus was originally designed as a means to strengthen exsisting human medicine, vaccines and other such as well as perhaps creating it's own line of medical items. However, the virus had a few nasty side-effects.
[edit] Flaws of the R-virus
While the virus does allow rapid regeneration and higher brain functions, it comes at a price; the host's lifespan is extremely shortened. Although the virus had never offically been tested on humans, when tested on other mammals such as canines, armidillos, bats and others, they life span is shortern to hours(ranging from two to fourteen) rather than years. It is spectulated that if used on a human, depending on how much of the virus is used, it may shorten a the host's life span anywhere from twelve to twenty-four hours, give or take.
Because the virus regenerates the host's cells, if the host's body is damaged, the virus will immediately begin to regenerate them, mutating the creature as it does once again in a similar manner to the G-virus. Unlike the G, though, the R-virus will stop regenerating once the injuries have been healed and will only further regenerate if the host is damaged again.
Somehow, Carol Wilson mnagaed to counteract these flaws and create a perfected version of the Regeration Virus which would heal ones injuries at a rapid rate, kill deadly cells such as those of AIDS, HIV and Cancer(and surprising even Carol herself, the T and G cells too) and finally would not mutate a person into a horrific creature. Unlike it's imperfect counterpart, this version of the virus was a very light pink color rather than dark red. Unfortunately, the only sample was taken from her by her assistant, Donald Turner as he made his escape from the Dome to be sold for a ridicudlously high amount of money but was lost when he used it to heal himself after the crash of his helicopter. A waste as he was soon afterwards he was attacked by a group of Eliminators and only regenerated as they tore him apart, keeping him locked in a painful hell until he and everything else on the island was killed by the F-22 raptors that bombed the island minutes later.
[edit] The V.I.R.A.L. Dome Facility incident
Unfortunately for Umbrella, all data, scientists involed in the creation, samples and roses used to make the R-virus were lost when the V.I.R.A.L. Dome was bombed and destroyed by multiple F-22 raptors launching a barrage of AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles onto the island at Albert Wesker's command.
